Industrial Action at Edinburgh's Telford College

Last month an overwhelming  89% of voting members resolved to participate in strike action in protest to the cuts to jobs and curriculum.

The members of the EIS-FELA at Edinburgh’s Telford College do not believe that the Principal & Board at the college need to make the cuts to staffing , courses and student numbers.
The Branch Committee would like to thank everyone who turned out to demonstrate their dedication and continued support in the battle to save jobs and courses at the college.

The action was supported by colleagues and the public alike from across the college and North Edinburgh who tooted their horns in approval. We were also given a real boost from support given by Edinburgh North & Leith Constituency MSP Malcom Chilsholm, EIS General Secretary Ronnie Smith and colleagues from the Branch Committee at Stevenson College.

As well as the very wet but highly enthusiastic presence outside the college a lively and colourful demonstration took place outside the Scottish Parliament during which a “very positive” meeting between Minister for Learning and Skills, Dr Alasdair Allan and members of the Branch Committee took place.

Today was the first day of what we very much hope will not be a protracted period of industrial action at Edinburgh's Telford College. The Branch remains committed to reaching a resolution to the dispute and are hopeful for a return to the negotiating table should the Principal choose to do so.

Finally. for today anyway, we would like to thank all the members for their continued and dedicated support in the pursuit of fairness, equality and diversity at Edinburgh’s Telford College.

Morale is high and resolve is strong as we continue to try and protect our college and our students!

Well done Telford! It is never an easy decision to withdraw your labour. Be assured though that you are doing the right thing!
