Redundancies at Telford College raised at First Ministers Questions

Scottish Labour Party Leader Iain Gray MSP, demonstrated his and his parties support for staff at Telford college when he quizzed First Minister Alex Salmond during First Ministers Questions yesterday. Mr Gray raised the Sottish Governments commitment to no compulsory redundancy in the public sector making direct reference to the Telford staff who remain at risk of compulsory redundant.

A recording of the session can be found on the BBC website by clicking on the following link:

Reference to the college and the Governments commitment can be found between 2Min 30secs - 8mins-2 secs.

Mr Salmond called on the parliament not to underestimate the abilities of Government Minister to persuade "even the most recalcitrant of Labour authorities" to follow their policy of no compulsory redundancy. The Branch hopes that Government Ministers can use their finely tuned abilities on the Principal & Board of college and persuade them even at this late stage to commit to the policy and save jobs both now and in the future.

The Branch committee would encourage all EIS-FELA members, freinds and supporters to make representations to the Scottish Government on the issues we face by emailing the First Minister Alex Salmond and the Minister for Education and Life Long Learning Mike Russell.
